While I was away in France, Merkel-Sarkozy fiddled while Europe continued to burn. London actually burned and Cameron, demonstrating that politicians never, ever learn, called for a return to “old-fashioned values”. Obama set off on a bus tour, sort of racing for 2012. Bad stuff happened in Pakistan, again. The recovery, much as it was back on 7 August, was wobbly.
What a delight it is to decide not to care about any of these things for a while. If the Merkels, Sarkozys, Camerons and Obamas of this world did the same things would, at least, be no worse when they got back.
The Pyrenees, however, are stunning; eternal.
